Created a
316-hectare
nature sanctuary

We have converted 316-hectares of land in Northland from a rundown cattle farm into a nature sanctuary that is internationally recognised as a Global Ecosphere Retreat®.

This has involved fencing animals out of wetlands and forests, reversing drainage and constructing ponds and lakes, and planting trees and shrubs. Almost 325,000 natives have been planted to create habitat and reconnect the different ecosystems.

Plants have been sourced mainly from local ecosystems and grown at Tahi. In addition to plants that offer food for birds and bees, we have also planted a number of rarer Northland species.
